A/Prof Stephen Tsao is a senior consultant in the Gastroenterology Department and Director of Endoscopy at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He holds teaching appointments with both Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine NUS. He underwent undergraduate and postgraduate training in the UK, and obtained his Fellowship to the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh, UK) in 2012. He furthered his training in image enhanced endoscopy and ESD in Kobe, Japan under Japanese Society of Gastroenterology Research Fellowship in 2010.
After A/Prof Tsao completed his specialist training in the UK, he moved to Singapore in 2008. He has a special interest in small and large bowel disease, in particular inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer, and endoscopic treatment (ESD) for early gastrointestinal cancers. He is an expert in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, and is leading the advance endoscopic resection service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His research interests include new technologies in endoscopy and clinical studies in GI cancers; he is heavily involved with many collaborative research projects with National University Hospital and National University of Singapore. He also has a keen interest in teaching and developing endoscopic skills of trainee specialists. He is also the Course Director of Singapore International Advance Therapeutic Endoscopy Course – this is an annual international seminar in advance endoscopy including hands-on training in ESD. He is a keen teacher and strong believer in educating the next generation of doctors and raising public awareness on various medical conditions.
