Prof Dong-Wan Seo graduated from prestigious Seoul National University Medical College in 1987 and served 3 years in Boeun Sanitary Center as a part of military service. Later, he joined Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan Medical College and received his internal medicine residency training and gastroenterology fellowship training. From 1997, he started his professional career as an instructor in the same hospital. His current position is a Professor of Department of Gastroenterology, Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan Medical College, which is the largest teaching hospital in South Korea.  He is also the Director of Digestive Endoscopy Center.

Prof Seo received several awards, including young investigator award from APDW in 1996 and IAP in 1998. He also received audio-visual award from ASGE in 1999. He published a book ‘Cholangioscopy’ in 2002 which is the first book dedicated only to various techniques and findings of cholangioscopy. He also wrote several book chapters in the field of ERCP, EUS and cholangioscopy.

Prof Seo has created a lot of advanced endoscopy works to the World of GI Endoscopy including his own classification of cholangioscopic reading, EUS-guided treatment of pancreatic cystic tumors. He is actively conducting many studies related to interventional EUS. Currently Prof. Seo is also serving as Secretary General of World Endoscopy Organization (WEO), a chairperson of Endoscopy Teleconference Session in APAN meeting and scientific committee of SGI meeting. He is working as an active member in variety of national & international societies including WEO, KSGE, KSG, SGI, ASGE and NOSCAR. He is also serving as an editorial board member of Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
