Ms Jacinta Phoon is a Medical Social Work and Pastoral Psychotherapist, currently with the National Cancer Centre Singapore. She has 20 years of experience in working with individuals, families and groups from various age groups on different psychosocial and spiritual issues. Her interests are in palliative care and she is interested in furthering the education of junior workers in deepening their clinical skills of offering psycho-social and spiritual support to patients and their families.
She is part of the curriculum development team and teaches on the “Palliative Care Course for Social Workers” organized by the Lien Centre for Palliative Care and the Singapore Association for Social Workers. She also teaches on the “Graduate Diploma of Palliative Medicine” organized by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lien Centre’s “Palliative Care Course for Pharmacists”. She had co-facilitated focus groups for a study entitled “A randomized trial to assess the effectiveness of a psycho-educational group (PEG) versus usual care (UC) to improve supportive care and survivorship issues in early-stage breast cancer survivors who have received systematic treatment” which won the SingHealth’s 10th Allied Health IP Award in 2017. She is currently co-facilitating a group assisting resident doctors in improving their empathy levels through the reflective use of the arts.
