A/Prof Tsao, MBChB, FRCP, graduated from University of Leicester, UK in 1996. He undertook basic medical training in University Birmingham, UK and obtained his MRCP in 2000. He later returned to University of Leicester and completed his higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in 2008. Since then, he has taken up a full time Consultant post in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2012.
A/Prof. Tsao is actively involved with teaching of undergraduate students and postgraduate doctors. He has obtained diploma level in MSc course in Medical Education from the Staffordshire University, UK and currently holds a Clinical Teacher post with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine NUS.
A/Prof. Tsao’s subspecialty interests include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), clinical nutrition and advance therapeutic endoscopy. He is the Director of Endoscopy at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and he leads Advance Endoscopic Resection service in the hospital. He was awarded the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology Fellowship in 2010 and spent 3 months at the University Hospital Kobe, Japan learning advance diagnostic endoscopy and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). He is also the Course Director of Singapore International Advance Therapeutic Endoscopy Course – this is an annual international seminar in advance endoscopy including hands-on training in ESD.
A/Prof. Tsao has also been involved with various clinical studies and research projects along his career. In 2006 he was awarded the Broad Medical Research Program (USA) with a grant of USD$115,000 for his research work in IBD.
